Sri Lanka Morning Show celebrating online success

April 6, 2018

Long-standing C31 producer Nimal Alwis and the team at Sri Lanka Morning Show are seeing reward for their efforts engaging audiences on digital platforms – supported by the C31 digital team.

The Sri Lanka Morning Show YouTube channel features interviews, news, cooking videos with local celebrity Chef Happy K and coverage of Melbourne arts and cultural events. The channel has developed a loyal following among Melbourne’s Sri Lankan diaspora and is also attracting audiences worldwide. The associated Facebook page was set up to connect with the local Sri Lankan community in real-time and has quickly become the go-to page for local news, events and businesses.

The Sri Lanka Morning Show has since produced close to 500 videos for YouTube, and is fast approaching 200,000 views and 1000 subscribers. He has also steadily grown the Sri Lanka Live TV Facebook page, which now has more than 5,200 followers. This is in addition to Sri Lanka Morning Show’s weekly TV reach of 50,000 viewers on Channel 31.

Nimal has long supported Melbourne’s Sri Lankan business community by connecting business owners with their target audiences on TV, and with the growth of his online audiences he is now able to offer considerable value to his sponsors.

Nimal regularly produces online video on behalf of sponsors; these businesses receive widespread coverage by the Sri Lanka Morning Show on multiple platforms, a guaranteed audience among the local Sri Lankan community, and professional video content for their own websites and social media channels.

Nimal met with C31’s digital team following the announcement that community TV broadcasters would eventually be forced to transition off TV and onto the Internet. The team has since developed a “web first” philosophy, having shifted their business model and production process away from free-to-air television.

C31 assisted Nimal to develop content streams and channel art for YouTube, provided insights into his channel analytics, advised on best practices for online video production and distribution, and helped manage his metadata and content release schedule.
